Jennifer P. Harman is earning her PhD in Mind-Body Medicine at Saybrook University, with concurrent board certifications in Integrative Wellness Coaching, Stress Management Education, and Mindfulness Applications. A US Navy disabled veteran and lifelong artist, Jennifer’s research, education, and work in the community all align with advocating for the arts to serve as an agent for healing the mind and body, with her specific area of research focused on, “Exploring the Socio-Emotional-Spiritual Impact of Mindful Arts on Veteran Wellness.”

She is the founder of the Center for Integrative Arts & Wellness and the co-founder and Executive Director of The Storytellers Alliance, a community-based arts education and outreach organization focused on immersive arts experiences and mind-body practices. Jennifer is also an adjunct professor at Southern New Hampshire University, Hillsborough Community College, and Saint Leo University, where she teaches Humanities, English, and Theatre, respectively.
 
Jennifer holds her MA in Creative Writing, BA in Business Management and Marketing, and AS in TV/Radio Broadcasting and Communication. Jennifer also studied under the direction of jazz legend (and fellow Navy veteran), Luigi, who rehabilitated himself from paralysis through dance, and she continues his legacy today by teaching Luigi’s signature style and technique to students of every age and ability.
 
Serving her 8^th term on the Veterans Advisory Board for the US House of Representatives 12th Congressional District of Florida, she plays an active role in the veteran community. Jennifer is also part of the Department of Veterans Affairs clinic-to-community initiative, where she works in partnership with the VA Whole Health, Women’s Program, and Creative Arts Therapies teams to facilitate community-based mindful arts programs for outpatient veteran wellness.
 
She is a collaborator with the Straz Center for the Performing Arts, a member of the International Arts + Mind (IAM) Lab Village with Johns Hopkins University, and a member of the Performing Arts Medicine Collaborative (PAMC) at USF.
 
Jennifer has received several awards and honors, most recently including: President’s College of Integrative Medicine and Health Sciences (CIMHS) Academic Scholarship, Saybrook University (2023); National Honor Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA) (2022); 2nd Place in Fine Arts, “For My Daughter” (acrylic on canvas painting), National Veterans’ Creative Arts Showcase (2022); 1^st Place in Fine Arts, “Kenya” (acrylic on canvas painting), National Veterans’ Creative Arts Showcase (2021); Arts in Health Emerging Leaders Scholarship, Center for Arts in Medicine at the University of Florida (2020); and 1st Place in Short Stories, National Veterans’ Creative Arts Showcase (2020).
 
A published writer and photographer, her work has appeared in a variety of print and online publications, including: RecruitMilitary’s Search & Employ magazine; VetArtSpan.org; Navy Recruiter Magazine; and Sandhill Review. Her most recent article, titled: Moving Beyond Trauma: Using the Process of Learning Choreography as a Tool to Aid in Post-9/11 US Veteran Reintegration, was published by Saint Leo University College of Arts and Sciences in the inaugural issue of Kaleidoscope: Integrating Research Across Disciplines academic journal.
